Thank you for your interest in St. Mary’s School! We are a preschool through sixth-grade Catholic school located in Alma, Michigan. Our Mission Statement is “St. Mary’s Catholic School, a ministry of Nativity of the Lord Parish, is committed to academic excellence and forms children into life-long disciples of Christ and responsible stewards of the parish, the community, and the world.” We take pride in our high academic and behavior expectations.
St. Mary’s School opened in 1950, closed in 1971, and reopened in 1982. As a school, we take gratification in all that we have to offer. Frequently we hear “we know which students came from St. Mary.” They are more disciplined, not only with their behavior but with all aspects of their life: academics, relationships, etc.
We welcome all faiths! Our students start the day with a prayer alongside their teacher and pray throughout the day. Experiencing our traditions is a good chance for children to communicate with their families about their own. First grade through sixth grade students attend weekly Mass in our school gymnasium and the Young 5’s and Kindergarten classes attend every other week.
The interaction among preschool through sixth grade all on one campus is unique for this town. The older grades learn how to respect and be responsible for younger students, while the younger students get a chance to have role models. This gives the older students opportunities to keep an eye out for the younger students at assemblies, Mass and other school activities. Teachers have the ability to know students’ needs and become friends with them as well, being that they are in attendance for seven years.
We offer special classes such as Spanish, Fitness, Music, Art and Computers. St. Mary’s also has outstanding instructors to provide our students with the most well-rounded courses. In addition, students in third through sixth grade have 1:1 Chromebooks available for their use. Our faculty and staff are dedicated and committed to doing what is needed to help each student succeed.
We appreciate your interest in St. Mary’s School and would love to hear from you. If you have any questions, please contact us via email or phone at 989-463-4579.
Yours in Catholic education,
Lisa Seeley
St. Mary’s Catholic School, a ministry of Nativity of the Lord Parish, is committed to academic excellence and forms children into life-long disciples of Christ and responsible stewards of the parish, community, and the world.
Recalling that parents are the principle and primary educators of their children, as a Catholic School, we strive to reinforce the Christian faith that is an integral part of the homes of our students.
St. Mary’s School, a ministry of Nativity of the Lord Parish, is committed to academic excellence and forms children into life-long disciples of Christ and responsible stewards of the parish, the community, and the world. All our constituents celebrate our faith and follow the Gospel. We strive to provide a variety of opportunities for our students and individualize instruction to meet the individual needs of each child. St. Mary’s School prepares students to succeed in our world, while emphasizing community involvement and service to others.
As a Catholic school, our strong faith-filled family environment supports high academic and behavior standards, which is key to our success. The strengths of St Mary’s School are a faith-based education, small class sizes, a family-friendly atmosphere, a dedicated staff, and support from various constituents. We welcome all faiths to celebrate our Catholic faith. Having a different faith allows families to have discussions about religion. We are not trying to convert others to Catholicism here at St. Mary’s School.
The Alma Public Schools sponsors a wide variety of extracurricular opportunities for students.
Students in grades five and six also become involved in Student Council. Student Council sponsors a variety of spirit-building activities throughout the year. They also select one outreach project for the students to support during the year. Student Council tries to sponsor one educational activity for the students each year.
