An alumnus of St. Mary’s School in Alma recently received the prestigious Milken Educator Award.
Luke Kanine, a Spanish and physical education teacher as well as a behavior interventionist at E.F. Rittmueller Middle School in Frankenmuth, was surprised with the award on Jan. 24 during a school-wide assembly with Michigan State Superintendent Dr. Michael F. Rice and Milken Family Foundation Senior Program Director Greg Gallagher.

When Principal Mandy Kaul wanted to offer families at Nouvel Catholic Central Elementary School in Saginaw a way to spend time together intentionally practicing their faith, she found a unique idea online: family prayer boxes.
Catholic school students across the Diocese of Saginaw are participating in the nationwide Catholic Schools Week celebration from Jan. 26 to Feb. 1. This year’s theme is “Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community.”

Fifth and sixth graders from four of our Catholic schools took a step out of the classroom and into the great Michigan outdoors, enjoying an unforgettable three-day retreat at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Camp and Retreat Center in Brighton. The retreat gave students from All Saints Catholic, Auburn Area Catholic, St. Joseph the Worker and St. Mary’s Schools the opportunity to meet new friends, foster community and grow in faith and teamwork.

This is an ideal opportunity to contact or meet with your state senator and representative to share the vital role your nonpublic school plays in the community. Join together in this important advocacy initiative to elevate the voice and impact of non-public schools in Michigan!
St. Brigid is poised to become the first school in the Diocese of Saginaw with a Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level III Atrium. Students in the fourth grade and younger for the 2024-25 academic year will experience all three levels of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) during their time at St. Brigid Catholic School.
Diocese of Saginaw Catholic school educators attended the annual Michigan Association of Non-public Schools School Law Seminar at the Michigan Catholic Conference in Lansing on June 14. The seminar is designed to help administrators navigate educational law and learn about the latest legal developments.
