The close of the 2022-23 school year represents the end of the first year of the Our Catholic Schools: Centered in Christ, Committed to Excellence initiative.
It has been a busy year. We are pleased to provide an update on our progress thus far as well as to highlight some of the great things happening in our schools.
Excellence in Teaching award winners announced
The Office of Catholic Schools is excited to recognize the 2022-23 recipients of the Excellence in Teaching award recipients, Jessica Spencer and Charles “Chuck” Pavlik.

Jill Albaugh had a wish. More specifically, she had several “wish list” items. To her surprise, generous Sacred Heart Academy alumni stepped in immediately to grant her wish— and more.
“I always wanted to hatch the salmon and have them in the classroom and the cost was ... very high,” said Albaugh, who has taught science for 27 years at both public and Catholic schools.

Jose Perez IV, the author and director of Saginaw Valley State University’s next theatre performance, “Very Berry Dead,” is no stranger to the Great Lakes Bay Region. The multifaceted talent grew up in Saginaw, graduating from Nouvel Catholic Central before completing bachelor’s and master’s degrees in drama.

We are thankful to God that the 911 active shooter call at Nouvel Catholic Central High School in Saginaw on Tuesday was a hoax and that all students, faculty and staff are safe.
