Our Catholic Schools:
Centered in Christ, Committed to Excellence.
Congratulations to the dozens of talented artists who entered the True, Good and Beautiful Art Contest presented by the Offices of Catholic Schools, Faith Formation and Youth and Young Adult Ministry! The judges were amazed at the thoughtful and creative artworks submitted in response to the theme, “What does the Eucharist mean to you?”
The winners for each category are listed below. As there were no entries in the high school division, two runners-up are named in each category.
Eliana DeVellis
Grade 4, List Elementary School, Frankenmuth
Blessed Trinity Parish, Frankenmuth
The judges noted Eliana’s use of color and symbolism in the clouds, particularly the chalice and Host. One judge mused that it showed that “the Incarnation changes all creation.” The judges especially liked the way the painting showed a personal relationship with Jesus, as the subject walks with the Lord. The Holy Spirit, represented by a dove, completes the composition.

Mea Wesley
Grade 8, St. Brigid Catholic School, Midland
Holy Family Parish, Saginaw
The judges appreciate the beauty of the sketches. The judges liked the life blossoming from the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Host, which reflect the Body and Blood of Christ. On the back, Mea wrote, “The Eucharist, to me, means LIFE!” We see the abundance of life reflected in the piece, as it calls to mind the parable of the seed planted in fertile ground that bears much fruit.
